The Waring pro juicer was the very first juicer I owned. I’ve used juicers at friend’s house so I know what I was looking for when I went shopping for a juicer.
The juicer is pretty large – it’s actually the largest kitchen appliance I have on my counter. However, I’ve got plenty of space in my kitchen so fitting it in was no problem. If you are in a super small apartment with barely any counterpace, you might want to think twice about getting this juicer. I wanted to keep my juicer sticking out so I would use it daily rather. As far as looks go, the juicer looks great – a grey stainless steel which matches most other kitchen utilities.
I got this juicer because I’m not really a big veggie eater besides the usual (corn, potatoes, peas). My reasoning was that I could add more greens to both my diet and my kids’.
Now you can’t just throw anything into this juicer – there are a few basic rules for what you can and can’t do regarding juicers. First, you are going to have to peel citrus fruit (some citrus peels our body can’t digest). And for larger fruit like applies, you need to cut them up. You also need to select a speed for the juicer as well depending on the fruit. For hard fruits, you use high speed, soft fruits and veggies, lower speed, etc.
I started juicing with a few apples and one carrots. I got quite a bit of juice – over 10 oz of juice from this. The juice was very sweet and tasty. I could have added more vegetables, but I wanted to see if my kids would drink it. My daughter actually asked for a second cup! In my experience, if you are going to add veggies, you want to add an apple or pear – something sweet to take away the bitter taste of veggies.
Now despite the many good things about this juicer, there are a few cons you should know about. The unit is a bit hard to put back together once you clean it. The pulp catcher can present a bit of a challenge to put back into the juicer. It’s a bit annoying that the container that catches the juice pulp must be snapped very tight or the juicer won’t activate. Other than the filter, the juicer is easy to clean.
The juicer can be a bit nosy – but then again, it’s a juicer and pretty much any brand/model is noisy. Still, it’s the loudest kitchen appliance I own. Keep this in mind if you live in a suite with some picky tenants.
As far as the juicing time goes, it’s pretty quick. If you have all the ingredients ready, you can juice everything in about 2 minutes.
I’m very happy with the Waring juicer. The price is good and the quality, so far, has been fantastic. I would defiantly buy a Waring juicer again. The noise and the difficult to clean filter are annoying, but overall the many positives out way those two negatives.
